About the city

Xiamen, a special economic zone of China, an important central city on the southeast coast, a modern marine city and an international comprehensive transportation hub, also undertakes the vital mission as the core area for the integrated development of the Taiwan Strait. As of December 2025, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport has operated 43 direct international air routes (excluding regional routes) covering intercontinental (America, Europe and Oceania), Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other directions, ranking 8th nationwide. The new Xiamen Xiang'an International Airport is expected to be officially put into operation in 2026.


About the hospital

The Zhongshan Hospital Xiamen University was founded in 1928 with donations from patriotic overseas Chinese and local distinguished figures, aiming to carry forward the spirit of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's "The World Is for All, Benefit the Society". Dr. Lim Boon Keng, then President of Xiamen University and a renowned medical expert, served as its first president, making it the first affiliated hospital of Xiamen University. As a large Grade III Class A general hospital, it currently has 50 clinical and medical technology departments (including 4 national key clinical specialties such as General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gastroenterology and Clinical Laboratory, as well as 15 provincial key clinical specialties) and 4 master physician studios. Boasting strong medical strength, the hospital has nearly 1,000 physicians with senior titles above associate chief physician, and its approved funding for the National Natural Science Foundation ranked first among all hospitals in Xiamen in 2025. It has 2,500 authorized beds and received nearly 2.3 million outpatient and emergency visits in 2025. The hospital has won Grade A+ in the national performance assessment of tertiary public hospitals for four consecutive years and been selected into the "Top 100 Hospitals in China" in the China Hospital Competitiveness Ranking for three consecutive terms. Professor Yin Zhenyu, President of the hospital, is a nationally renowned expert in hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, a specialist enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, and was awarded "Top 10 Medical Influential Experts" in 2025.


About the International Medical Center

The International Medical Center (IMC) of Zhongshan Hospital Xiamen University was officially established in June 2025. Relying on the hospital's strong comprehensive strength and disciplinary advantages, based in Xiamen—a high-level open city, and supporting the city's functional positioning transformation and economic structure upgrading, IMC is oriented to the world, serves diverse groups, and is committed to building a distinctive international medical service platform of Zhongshan Hospital. It provides high-quality, personalized and efficient one-stop high-end medical services for foreigners, compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, domestic high-end groups, commercial insurance clients, groups with specific high-end medical needs and participants in major foreign-related events. It also offers characteristic diagnosis and treatment services such as plastic surgery and cosmetology, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine rehabilitation, clinical nutrition and cell therapy. Additionally, the hospital has built internationally advanced medical technology platforms including the Cross-Strait Precision Medicine Center and the Microecology Diagnosis and Treatment Center. As of January 2026, IMC has received nearly 300 patients from 15 countries and regions including the United States, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, Venezuela and Hong Kong.

IMC provides outpatient services, health check-ups and inpatient treatment. The outpatient and reception center is located on the 1st floor of Building 3, with 4 consulting rooms, open to the public and offering 24-hour appointment-based outpatient services. The health check-up center is on the 4th floor of Building 3; as a national demonstration base for health management, it provides personalized check-up plans and one-on-one report interpretation by professional medical teams to meet high-quality health management needs. IMC Ward Area 1 is on the 22nd floor of Building 3, with 6 suites integrating consulting rooms and a teleconsultation center; Ward Area 2 is on the 21st floor with 20 beds; Ward Area 3 is on the 20th floor with 30 beds. The inpatient wards boast beautiful scenery and a comfortable environment.

Relying on the hospital's high-quality medical resources, IMC has built a first-class medical team consisting of "general practitioners + specialists", equipped with advanced medical equipment and intelligent information systems, and constructed a multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment system covering common diseases, frequently-occurring diseases and intractable severe diseases, realizing full-cycle medical care from consultation, examination to treatment and follow-up. For complex cases, it can organize intra-hospital multidisciplinary consultations, and link with high-level medical institutions at home and abroad when necessary, achieving international standards and providing cross-regional and interdisciplinary precise diagnosis and treatment support.
