The Clinical Nutrition Department of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen University was established in 1995 and operates under the direct supervision of the hospital's executive leadership. The department currently comprises six professional staff members, including one associate chief physician, four attending physicians (four of whom hold master’s degrees), and one nurse. Additionally, it employs chefs and meal preparers. The department is equipped with a dedicated nutrition canteen and an enteral nutrition preparation room, which are responsible for providing nutritional assessments, treatments, and therapeutic diets for all hospitalized patients. Staff members have clearly defined roles and responsibilities, ensuring high-quality and efficient clinical nutrition services.
Our department primarily handles nutritional consultations for all inpatients, encompassing nutritional risk assessments, treatment planning, monitoring, and the formulation of parenteral nutrition support plans. We also offer outpatient services for patients with conditions such as gestational diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases, providing personalized dietary guidance. Furthermore, we oversee and guide the preparation of enteral nutrition and therapeutic diets in the hospital cafeteria. To promote public health, we conduct nutrition education programs for hospital staff and external groups, including corporate employees and students.
Since its inception, the department has actively engaged in professional development by sending staff to renowned hospitals affiliated with top universities in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. Through these exchanges and years of practical experience, the department has accumulated extensive expertise. It also plays a key role in teaching and research, collaborating closely with departments such as Gastroenterology, Neurology, Oncology, and Gastrointestinal Surgery to enhance the quality of both enteral and parenteral nutrition care. The department has evolved into a comprehensive unit integrating medical practice, education, and scientific research.
