Department of Voice and Laryngology (Second Ward of Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery)

With a focus on improving the quality of patients' voices, the Voice Medicine Team was established in 2009 and became an independent department in 2018. For more than 10 years, it has maintained close cooperation in scientific research and clinical practice with many top international voice centres, and is committed to providing patients with treatment that meets international standards, and has been approved to establish the Voice Research Institute of the School of Medicine of Xiamen University, the Xiamen Key Laboratory, as well as the Advantageous Subdisciplines of the Xiamen Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission.

The team's work has been widely recognized by domestic counterparts, and it is the contributing author of the professional term "voice disease" produced by the National Health and Health Commission and Baidu Encyclopedia.The team is the first to systematically introduce voice medicine on CCTV, and the special programme "There are techniques of vocal cord vibration" was aired on CCTV 10 set of "Approaching Science" in April 2017. The team is actively engaged in research and development of voice medicine, and is actively involved in the development of voice medicine. The team has been actively teaching voice medicine, accepting 15-20 trainees from well-known medical units across the country every year, and also taking over the foreign language teaching of laryngology at Xiamen University; for 12 consecutive years, the team has successfully organised the national continuing medical education programmes on new advances in voice medicine. At the same time, Professor Zhuang Peiyun is a member of the Standing Committee of the Otolaryngology Specialist Committee and Chairman of the Voice Specialist Committee of the Chinese Association of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine, Vice-Chairman of the Voice Group of the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and Vice-Chairman of the Speech Rehabilitation Group of the Rehabilitation Treatment Specialist Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, among other important academic positions, leading the team to lead or take part in the development of the five consensuses of the Chinese Medical Association.

In addition to Professor Zhuang Peiyun being appointed as a member of the Advisory Board, The Voice Foundation, many members of the team are also members of the The Voice Foundation, and have chaired and delivered speeches at various international voice conferences more than 20 times in recent years. The team won the first prize of the Spasmodic Dysphonia Research Award jointly issued by the International Spasmodic Society and the The Voice Foundation. The department is accepted by the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health as an overseas voice medicine training site for medical students.

The team has won six general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and a number of provincial and municipal key projects, and has published more than 80 SCI and core journal articles. The team won the first prize, the second prize and the third prize of Xiamen Science and Technology Progress Award, and participated in the editor-in-chief or compilation of 10 professional related books.
